Ni Hao Games

The Games are designed to reinforce the language learnt in the Textbook in a fun and engaging way. Gold coins are awarded for correct answers and a Yuanbao, or gold ingot, is awarded for every 10 gold coins. Final scores are your coins and yuanbao as a percentage out of the total possible.

This software is based on the simplified character editions and is designed to reinforce the language learnt throughout the course and is designed for school use only. Ni Hao Games is available for Ni Hao 1, 2 and 3.

When learning a foreign language it is vital that the audio resources are of the best quality. All Ni Hao Games software feature professionally recorded high quality audio spoken by professional announcers.

The material is spoken by native speakers and has six games.

• Ni Hao Characters guides the students to write characters in the correct stroke order.
• Ni Hao Expressions reinforces students learning of words and expressions in the Ni Hao textbook.
• Ni Hao Memory familiarizes students with words and terms learnt in the Ni Hao textbook.
• Ni Hao Construction consolidates students learning of characters and sentence patterns.
• Ni Hao Mahjong is to familiarize students with all the characters to be learnt in each lesson.
• Ni Hao Quick Pick reinforces students understanding of the structure of characters learnt in each lesson.

• Characters

  Characters reinforces writing Chinese characters in the correct stroke order.

  Instructions: Choose a character from the list to review and practice its stroke order. Click the Test button to begin a test of the stroke order for all characters lernt in the lesson. Score: 2 coins are awarded for each stroke when written correctly for the first time. 1 coin is awarded for the second attempt.

• Expressions

  Expressions reinforces the words and expressions learnt.

  Instructions: Choose a correct answer from the four choices that matches the situation in the cartoon, then drag and drop it onto the cartoon. If your chosen answer is incorrect, you will have a second chance to choose the correct answer. Score: 2 coins are awarded for each question answered correctly the first time. 1 coin is awarded for questions answered correctly the second time.

• Memory

  Memory reinforces the vocabulary learnt in the lesson.

  Instructions: Tap the button to begin. All cards are displayed face down. Touch two cards to turn them over and if they match they will be removed from the game. Continue to match cards until none remain or the timer runs out. Score: 2 coins are awarded for each match.

• Construction

  Construction reinforces the components of words and sentence patterns.

  Instructions: Listen to the sentence spoken, then drag and drop each correct character to the corresponding position in the blank squares to construct the sentence. Wait for the square to turn red when dropping the character. The audio can be played as many times as needed. Once you have constructed the sentence, tap "check answer". If you made any errors, you will have a second chance to make any corrections by dragging the incorrect characters back and replacing them. Score: 2 coins are awarded for each question answered correctly the first time. 1 coin is awarded for questions answered correctly the second time.

• Mahjong

  Mahjong reinforces students’ recognition of characters and their structure.

  Instructions: Tap the button to begin. Touch two matching characters which have at least one edge free to remove them from the game. Continue to match characters until none remain or the timer runs out. Score: 2 coins are awarded for each match. 1 coin is deducted for each incorrect match.

• Quick Pick

  Quick Pick reinforces students’ recognition of characters and their structure.

  Instructions: Touch the character on the screen to begin. Touch to catch all five copies of that character flying around the screen within the time limit. Similar looking characters will act as distractions. Score: 2 coins are awarded for each correct catch of the character. 1 coin is deducted for each incorrect touch.

Ni Hao Language Lab

Ni Hao Language Lab has all the spoken content of the Ni Hao textbook and allows the student to practise the language at home. It is a free download for those who have purchased the Ni Hao Textbook. Ni Hao Language Lab is available for all levels of Ni Hao.

Students can:

• select lessons and items within a lesson
• listen to the dialog, sentence patterns and vocabulary spoken by a native speaker
• record and compare pronunciation with that of a native speaker
• perform Role Play

Mini Games

The Ni Hao Mini Games software is a smaller version of the Ni Hao Games software. It is a free download for those who have purchased the Ni Hao Workbook and is ideal for the student to use at home as homework. Student results can be printed to hand in at school. Ni Hao Mini Games is only available for Ni Hao 1, 2 and 3.
